SRP Broadens Access to Pre-K and Early Childhood Programming
SRP is pleased to support new programs as well as increased access to valuable early learning opportunities for Chemung County's young children.

Pre-K For County 4 Year-olds
One of SRP's proudest accomplishments is its role in the landmark offering of Pre-K to every four year-old child living in Chemung County. Our Early Care & Education work group achieved this by negotiating community partnerships to access NYS Pre-K dollars and apply them to an innovative Pre-K delivery system. Now, Pre-K services are offered in a diversity of settings including public schools as well as private early learning settings.

The Toddler Center
The YWCA has partnered with the School Readiness Project to address a lack of early care for toddlers in Elmira. At the outset, the program served 8 infants and 10 toddlers, and is poised to grow as more children enroll. The center is housed at the Booth Education Center, 414 Davis St., Elmira NY.

The Bridge Funding system
was implemented to secure child care slots and subsidy payments for eligible parents who lose their job and need child care while seeking employment or those who are temporarily laid off.

Wrap Around Program for pre-school children was implemented and is now integrated into some early childhood programs.

For more information on these and other early care and education programs in Chemung County,  contact the Chemung County Child Care Council at (607) 734-3941 .

The Child Care Checklist gives you a guideline for questions to ask when searching for a childcare provider.

Men from Wall Street to homeless shelters speak with conviction about wanting to father their children more actively than they themselves were fathered.
